Country Director: Temba Mapani

Christ’s Hope Zimbabwe’s History
CHI-Zimbabwe was birthed in 2003, following a meeting called by Eric Garnie [now International Training Director] for Bulawayo pastors and leaders, at which International Director, Jos Holtzhausen, shared his vision to look after those infected and affected by HIV and AIDS. As a result of the meeting, an interim committee of five members was formed.
In response to a call, Eric Garnie was now leaving Zimbabwe to take up his position as International Training Director in Namibia. Temba Mapani took over as Chairman in November 2005.
In January 2006, Temba was invited to the annual Prayer and Fasting Week in Okahandja, Namibia. It was at this meeting that Temba was asked to consider being Country Director of CHI-Zimbabwe, though it was as yet an unregistered organization in his country.
On 14 February, 2006, CHI-Zimbabwe was officially registered in Zimbabwe as a Trust. The five person interim committee has been dissolved and a new 8 member Board of Trustees was established. CHI-Zimbabwe is still in its infancy but hopes to have a full Board of at least twelve members before June, 2008.
CHI-Zimbabwe has been represented in the United States and Britain when the Country Director visited these nations in April and May 2007 on a friend-raising trip. It is hoped that the friendships established then will be lifetime ones for the organization.
Minitries
- This is the first ministry to start in Zimbabwe, perhaps because its message is so urgent. CHI-Zimbabwe ran a week-long Pastors and Leaders’ Choose to Wait Conference in August, 2007. This was attended by 136 delegates from thirty churches and like-minded organisations. There are glowing reports of life-changing experiences as a result of this conference. Currently, plans are underway to prepare selected delegates to undergo in-service training so that they can qualify as certified CHI Choose to Wait teachers and, later, trainers.
- CHI-Zimbabwe is already running two Choose to Wait Clubs in Bulawayo. As a result of the clubs, some parents and guardians are being reached with the Gospel and their lives being transformed by God.
- Assistance is given to a growing number of orphaned children in the form of School fees, uniforms, food and medication.
- A clinic that caters for terminally ill HIV and AIDS patients has also been “adopted” by CHI-Zimbabwe. The clinic usually has need for items like bleach, bath and cleansing soap, surgical gloves, food, etc. CHI-Zimbabwe has made a commitment to assist with these and other needed items whenever funds permit.
