Formation

Christ’s Hope International Zambia was formed on 7 August 2003 following a meeting held at Potters Lodge in Kitwe. The meeting was attended by the International Director Jos Holtzhausen, the National Director of Christ’s Hope UK, Dr Chas Sims, Victor Kasongo, Arthur Chaponda, Kenneth Nguvulu and Timothy M Mfula the current National Director for Zambia.

It was at this meeting that Timothy M Mfula was elected as interim committee Chairman to spearhead the registration of the ministry in Zambia. The committee was also challenged to raise the money for registration and the National Director for CHI-UK promised to contribute £250 for the opening of the account once the ministry was registered. The following members constituted the committee to help in the formation of Christ Hope Zambia:

The committee members contributed money for registration and committed their time to the ministry. They drafted a local constitution for the purpose of registering the organisation and did all the necessary papers to help in the registration and the organisation was finally registered with the Registrar of Societies in the Republic of Zambia on 23 March 2004. In the quest to speed up the process of registration the committee appointed Timothy M Mfula as National Director on full time basis 1 February 2004, after he resigned his secular job with Mopani Copper Mines Plc.

Constitution of the board

After registration the interim committee had to either reconstitute itself into a Board or appoint another Board and the later option was considered which meant the interim committee was going to remain as a technical committee. The new board was constituted after undergoing training that conducted on 6 March 2004 by Jos and Chuck Smith, the then National Director of CHI-USA.

International meetings

Zambia has been represented at two International Meetings held in Holland and the United States of America by the National Director Timothy M Mfula. Mr Mfula was elected to the International Board in November 2003 in Holland.

Staffing

Christ’s Hope International Zambia has only one member of staff due to lack of finances to pay for other staff.
