Christ’s Hope Kenya has expanded our ministry in 2008 with the addition of a Nairobi office. Dave and Jen Bell have joined Christ’s Hope International Kenya as the Mission and Volunteer Coordinators and East Africa Representatives, and are based in Kitengela, on the edge of Nairobi. The Bells have been working in Kenya for 5 years. The NBO House has room to house a team of 15 and is complete with room for meetings.
Desmond Marshal has joined the full time staff as he serves as the Country Care & Compassion Coordinator, and oversees the office in Kisumu. Desmond brings a great passion for those affected and infected by the AIDS Pandemic.
We currently have two Long Term Volunteers working with us in Kisumu, Denise Runge from the USA and Marieke Verduyn from the Netherlands. They are both serving in the Kisumu office assisting with the ministry there. We are grateful for these ladies who have committed for one year term of service.
Ministries
- Prevention
- We have several Choose to Wait teachers in the field each week and have a goal of reaching a total of 25 active and certified teachers by mid January of 2009. We are also partnering with Compassion International as we train several of their LDP (program graduates) students to be certified teachers as well. Reaching these objectives will enable us to be reaching as many as 2500-3500 children and young adults each week.
- Care and Compassion
- Currently we are assisting over 30 patients who are suffering from AIDS in and around Kisumu and Nairobi. In addition we are working with various HIV support groups supplying them with water purifier and assistance in other areas.
- Nurturing of Orphans and Vulnerable Children
- We are currently assisting more than 75 children in the Kisumu area and over 60 in the Nairobi area. We are actively providing meals, encouragement and spiritual guidance and education. We are assisting in schools and established childrens’ homes we are partnering with.
