Nurturing of Orphans and Vulnerable Children
Children’s Villages for orphaned and vulnerable children
In the wake of AIDS deaths, young children are often left without parents or homes. It is estimated that there are nearly 3,000,000 orphaned children in Africa. Christ’s Hope Children’s Villages provide a Christian-based, nurturing home atmosphere for orphaned children. Three are currently in operation with a fourth under construction.
Christ’s Hope is planning to establish a series of boarding schools designed to house, nurture, and educate orphans to help them be moral, ethical, Christ-centred citizens. Through the children’s villages we endeavour to train up a generation of young people who will be AIDS-free, setting a new standard of behaviour for their peers.
Our nurturing of Children strategy helps meet the needs of the growing population of orphans and vulnerable children. Currently we are operating four childrens’ villages (The Arks) in Namibia with several more in development or in construction, including a first Ark in Kenya.
The existing Arks currently serve up to 500 vulnerable children and AIDS orphans. The first home was built in Okahandja in 1998 and was used as a prototype for developing strategies to meet the challenges of such a diverse ministry. The Arks provide accommodation, food, education, much needed love, character development, security and care by adults.
The Arks are places where children are safe, they are loved by full-time house parents and they get the food, medicine and education they need to stay strong… and they get the word of Truth.
